Jupiter Medical Center is pleased to announce a transformative $25 million donation from Jupiter based philanthropists Johnny and Terry Gray in support of surgical advancements at Jupiter Medical Center’s highly anticipated Surgical Institute. The 90,000-square-foot Surgical Institute is currently under construction and upon completion in 2023, will feature 16 smart operating rooms and two hybrid operating suites. The Institute will be named the Johnny and Terry Gray Surgical Institute in honor of their generous gift. Jupiter Medical Center Foundation has raised just over $52 million thus far for the $100 million project.
“A donation of this magnitude will impact healthcare in the region for generations to come,” said Amit Rastogi, MD, MHCM, President and CEO of Jupiter Medical Center. “We remain incredibly grateful to Johnny and Terry for their support of our mission to increase access to world-class health care. The Johnny and Terry Gray Surgical Institute will feature state-of-the-art operating rooms, cutting-edge technology, and best-in-class surgical programs right here where people need their care – close to home.”
The facility’s smart operating rooms will accommodate a wide variety of complex surgeries, while the hybrid rooms offer surgeons the ability to transition from a minimally invasive surgery to an open procedure, reducing patient risk and improving outcomes. The “Smart” ORs will use state-of-the-art equipment that is digitally integrated so the patient’s information will be at the surgeon’s fingertips. Surgeons and nurses will be able to access a patient’s images during surgery and transmit images from the operating room to additional specialists for real-time consultation when needed.
The dedicated facility will also house a 5,000 square foot state-of-the-art surgical equipment sterilization center. The development of the Surgical Institute is in direct response to the significant growth of the community and corresponding patient volumes, with more than 15,000 traditional and minimally invasive surgical procedures performed at Jupiter Medical Center annually.
The estimated 1,000-square-foot hybrid operating rooms will bring together surgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologists and other specialists to tackle complex medical issues with minimally invasive procedures, in turn, reducing risks and delays, while improving patient safety and, ultimately, reducing costs. Patients typically experience a shorter recovery time following a procedure in a hybrid OR due to less stress from multiple surgeries. In a hybrid OR, surgeons can perform complex cardiovascular, neurological, thoracic and orthopedic surgeries, with the number of procedures growing rapidly.
The Institute will also incorporate a large reception area that will provide added comfort for caregivers and families with private consultation rooms where medical staff and surgeons can consult with family members preoperatively and postoperatively. A state-of-the-art patient tracking system will be integrated into the overall design of the surgery center to provide seamless and error-free tracking of patients as they pass from pre-op to surgery and on to recovery. This tracking system will provide nurses, and surgeons up-to-the-minute knowledge of the patient’s progress, as well as aid in real-time communication to the patient’s family or caregiver.
In 2011, Johnny and Terry, natives of New Mexico, sold their businesses and decided to move to Jupiter where they made Admirals Cove their home. The Grays are longtime philanthropists who have made it their priority to support multiple not-for-profits close to their hearts, with a focus on supporting programs and services for children, youth and families to end cycles of abuse and homelessness. Additionally, they have created shelters to support families exposed to domestic violence.
“We have been very fortunate, and it is a joy to share that success with others,” said Johnny and Terry Gray. “Jupiter Medical Center has cemented itself as a leader in quality world-class health care. We are confident they will remain innovative and at the forefront of cutting-edge medicine. We are honored to be part of their evolution to meet the growing demands of our community.”
