First in Northern Palm Beach County to Implant the World’s First Neuromodulation Device for Heart Failure

Jupiter, FL – December 3, 2024 – Jupiter Medical Center proudly announces the successful completion of its first implant of the Barostim™ Baroreflex Activation Therapy, the first FDA-approved heart failure device to use neuromodulation which uses the power of the brain and nervous system to improve the symptoms of systolic heart failure. Performed by Vivek Patel, MD, FACS, Cardiac Surgeon, this groundbreaking procedure positions the Jupiter Medical Center as the first in Northern Palm Beach County to offer this innovative treatment.

The Barostim device is designed for heart failure patients not adequately treated by medications. Unlike other therapies, it does not utilize hardware in the heart or blood vessels. Instead, it electrically stimulates baroreceptors in the carotid artery to help regulate heart, kidney, and vascular functions, reducing heart workload and improving efficiency. Research shows that when combined with heart failure medications, Barostim may enhance exercise capacity, quality of life enabling patients to resume daily activities.
