JUPITER, Fla. – March 11, 2024 - Jupiter Medical Center, the area’s only independent not-for-profit health system, has been recognized on Newsweek’s list of World’s Best Hospitals 2024. The international ranking lists the best hospitals in 30 countries based on hospital quality metrics, patient survey results and medical expert recommendations. The elite award was presented to only 2,400 hospitals worldwide, making this the most prestigious hospital ranking available to date. The designation also acknowledged Jupiter Medical Center as a global leader in Infection Prevention & Patient Satisfaction.
Newsweek’s annual World’s Best Hospitals list was designed to establish a ranking that serves as the best and most comprehensive resource for the top hospitals globally, and the award was presented in partnership with Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The ranking was announced on February 28, 2024, and can be viewed on Newsweek’s website.
“This recognition underscores Jupiter Medical Center's hard-earned reputation as a leader in world-class care,” said Amit Rastogi, MD, MHCM, President and CEO of Jupiter Medical Center. “Our team is committed to healthcare quality, safety, and patient experience, resulting in the best possible outcomes for our patients.”
Jupiter Medical Center earned two additional recognitions beyond its general global ranking. Its Infection Prevention recognition was based on a Standardized Infection Ratio calculated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The hospital earned the added distinction for Patient Satisfaction because it ranks among the top 20 percent of hospitals in the United States, based on data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Those metrics include overall ratings for mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care.
The lists are based on four comprehensive data sources, and a global board of renowned experts supports the continuous development of the methodology. The data sources are:
- Recommendations from Medical Experts: Online survey among tens of thousands of doctors, health care professionals, and hospital managers in 30 countries.
- Results from Patient Surveys: Survey of patient satisfaction with hospitalization. Patient experience reflects both the quality of care and the patient’s satisfaction with the hospital stay.
- Hospital Quality Metrics: Medical indicators, e.g., data on quality of care for treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety and waiting times. This year, a new hospital data source from the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals was added.
- PROMs Implementation Survey: An optional online survey on implementing and using PROMs (Patient Reported Outcome Measures) in hospitals. PROMS are standardized questionnaires patients complete to measure their quality of care and outcomes. PROMs are a high priority for CMS and, in recent years, have become a key topic in health systems worldwide.
Based on the above four pillars and their respective weights, a final source was calculated for each hospital.
The countries featured on the list were selected based on multiple comparability factors, such as standard of living/life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals, and data availability.
This international recognition is one of several recent accolades for Jupiter Medical Center. In late 2023, Jupiter Medical Center again achieved the prestigious “Top Hospital” rating from the nonprofit watchdog group. Additionally, the hospital was recently recognized on the Forbes list of “America’s Best Employers 2024.”
