Celebrating Strength and Resilience: World Gynecologic Oncology Day Patient Reunion At Jupiter Medical Center

Jupiter, FL – September 30, 2024 – Jupiter Medical Center recently observed World Gynecologic Oncology Day with a heartfelt patient reunion at the Anderson Family Cancer Institute. This special event brought together patients and their family members with their oncology care team to celebrate life, share stories, and reinforce the importance of early detection and listening to your body.

Among the several patients who shared their stories was Melanie Van Trump, who spoke about her emotional journey of being diagnosed with Ovarian cancer less than a year after her mother had passed away from stage 4 ovarian cancer.

“This journey has been extremely tough, but when you have a strong foundation, anything is possible and the medical team (at Jupiter Medical Center) is exactly that,” said Van Trump. “If I could give any advice to help anyone…don’t wait. If you feel anything different from cramping to bloating. I know I was very lucky that my symptoms started screaming at me.”

“There are more and more women being diagnosed with Gynecological cancers, and many women still are not aware of the signs and symptoms of these cancers,” said Donna Pinelli, MD, Medical Director of Gynecologic Oncology. “Advancements in medical research and treatment options are continually improving. With greater awareness and proactive healthcare, we can make strides in reducing the impact of gynecological cancers.”

Observances like World Gynecologic Oncology Day reiterate the importance of routine screenings and listening to our bodies’ signs and symptoms. They serve as vital reminders that early detection can significantly improve outcomes and save lives by spreading awareness and encouraging open conversations about gynecologic health.
