Jupiter, FL – January 15, 2025 – Jupiter Medical Center recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Florence A. De George Children’s & Women’s Services obstetrics unit, previously known as the Bright Beginnings Birthing Suites. For a quarter of a century, this unit has been a cornerstone of care in Jupiter and its neighboring communities, offering a warm and nurturing environment for mothers and babies.
The unit first opened on November 30, 1999, with 12 delivery suites, a classroom for mother and baby classes, a children's play area, and a conference room. In the first month, it welcomed around 30 babies into the world—a number that has grown exponentially over the years. By the end of its first year, the unit had celebrated the births of 558 babies. Today, Jupiter Medical Center delivers more than 2,500 babies annually, supported by a 24/7 OB emergency department and a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The obstetrics program proudly includes a team of 35 dedicated obstetricians and gynecologists, many of which have cared for families since the program’s inception.
"At the time, it was a big step for the community of Jupiter," says Jeffery Litt, MD, FACOG, who was the first chairman of obstetrics and played a pivotal role in planning and designing the suites. “I was invited to serve as the physician consultant, assisting with the planning and design concept. It's truly remarkable to witness the journey from the initial design phase to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and now celebrating its 25th anniversary. Just seeing how far we've come is incredible."
“The Jupiter community still has a small-town feel, and the hospital reflects that,” observes Lisa Hearing, MD, FACOG, who delivered the unit’s first baby (a boy) in 1999. “It’s a very friendly and caring medical center. We see new faces all the time because Jupiter is growing, but so many of the staff are long-term employees or have been here their entire careers, which makes it comfortable and friendly for our patients. We’re always advancing with state-of-the-art technology, new services, and other advances, too, so our patients also know they’re getting excellent medical care.”
Since its inception, Jupiter Medical Center’s obstetrics program has grown into a leading provider of maternal and neonatal care, offering:
• Eight labor rooms
• Two operating suites
• 17 post-delivery rooms
• A 16-bed Level II De George Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
• Advanced monitoring technologies and pain management protocols
• National Safe Sleep Certification promoting safe infant-sleeping techniques
Other services include classes on childbirth, dancing for birth (pregnant moms), newborn care, breastfeeding, plus support for personalized birthing experiences, a Dads Boot Camp and tours for new expecting parents.
