Recovery & Stroke Rehabilitation
Outpatient Rehabilitation
The Cary Grossman Health & Wellness Center provides outpatient services that can help bring back quality of life and independence after a stroke.
Specialty Services include:
Aquatic Therapy/Exercise
Aquatic therapy is physical therapy that is performed in the water using the resistance of the water instead of weights. Water can support weak muscles, while enhancing the flexibility and range of motion. The goal of aquatic therapy is to maintain strength, condition and improve overall function.
Water therapy exercise programs can include a variety of treatments that can be specifically designed to provide relief for stroke patients. The Cary Grossman Health & Wellness Center features highly-skilled, specially trained therapists and the northern county’s only full-size, indoor, heated swimming pool equipped with a hydraulic lift and a variety of professional aquatic equipment to meet your physical and occupational therapy needs.
Cognitive Training
Cognitive training is used by speech therapists and occupational therapists to improve an individual’s ability to function after a brain injury or other neurological event, such as a stroke. The exercises are used as a tool to help achieve targeted therapeutic goals, such as enhancing self-esteem, training frustration tolerance, and developing problem solving strategies.
LiteGait
LiteGait is a body weight support system used with or without a treadmill. The LiteGait frees the therapist to observe gait patterns and make manual adjustments in limb placement, weight shift, walking symmetry and gait timing while keeping the patient in a free-fall environment.
Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT)
NDT is a hands on treatment approach used by physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists. The approach was developed to enhance the function of those having difficulties in controlling movement resulting from neurological dysfunction.
VitalStim® Therapy
Dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing, may occur after a stroke or other cerebral vascular accident. VitalStim therapy is a safe and effective treatment for patients with dysphagia.
This therapy is designed to help swallowing through the use of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES). Electrical stimulation is used to aid muscle strengthening to rehabilitate the swallow. Ask your doctor if you may be a candidate for this therapy.
