Stay informed and protect your precious child with our expert advice on infant water safety.
Bathroom Water Safety
Did you know, babies can drown in as little as just 1 or 2 inches of water?
- Stay within arm's reach whenever your baby is in or near water.
- Have bath supplies within reach, so you can have one hand on the baby at all times.
- Check the water temperature with your wrist or elbow as hot tap water can cause burns.
- Consider other hazards within the bathroom to protect your baby such as keeping toilet seats down and doorknob covers to keep baby out of the bathroom when you aren't by their side.
Swimming Pools and Outdoor Water Safety
- Use a pool fence and keep the gate locked at all times. If there is no pool fence, make sure doors that lead outside are locked.
- Ensure hot tubs and whirlpools are latched and locked after each use.
- Empty water toys, buckets, and coolers immediately after use.
- Be alert to your surroundings for wells, drainage ditches, ponds, and other areas where water collects to keep your small children safe!
Swim Lessons
Learning to swim should be a priority for every family member. However, swim lessons aren't "drown-proof." Supervise children at all times when in or near water, remaining nearby.
