Robotic Heart Surgery

Robotic Cardiac Surgery at Jupiter Medical Center

Jupiter Medical Center is proudly home to the area’s only robotic heart surgery program, led by a skilled and dedicated team specializing in the treatment of various heart conditions using the advanced da Vinci surgical system.

Surgeons operate from a da Vinci console that provides a comprehensive 3D view of the patient’s anatomy, allowing them to control robotic arms equipped with specialized instruments. This technology translates the surgeon's precise hand, wrist, and finger movements into real-time actions, enabling intricate surgical procedures within the heart and blood vessels.

Transformative Benefits for Patients

The advantages of robotic surgery are significant– smaller incisions replace traditional open-chest techniques, reducing the need for heart-lung machines, minimizing blood loss, lowering the risk of complications, shortening hospital stays, and facilitating quicker recovery times.

Versatile Robotic Solutions for Heart Conditions

Our robotic-assisted technology effectively addresses a wide range of heart issues, including:

  • Repairing or replacing the tricuspid valve, which manages blood flow between the right atrium and ventricle
  • Sealing the left atrial appendage to prevent blood clots from leading to strokes
  • Conducting robotic-assisted minimally invasive coronary bypass (RA-MIDCAB) procedures to bypass blocked arteries through a small three-inch incision, avoiding the need to open the breastbone
  • Treating heart failure using the Barostim™ procedure, which implants a small electrical-stimulation device to help regulate blood volume and pressure
  • Repairing the mitral valve through five tiny incisions, allowing for greater precision and less trauma than traditional methods

Expert Care at the Johnny & Terry Gray Surgical Institute

Robotic heart surgeries are performed at the Johnny & Terry Gray Surgical Institute under the direction of fellowship-trained cardiovascular surgeon Vivek Patel, MD, FACS. Dr. Patel and team combine expertise with sophisticated diagnostics, leading-edge robotic technologies, and state-of-the-art imaging capabilities to ensure the highest level of care for heart patients.
